I'm very lucky to be friends with a very nice girl at my school. she's my age (17) and we've been friends since freshman year (although sometimes I wish it'd be a little more than that, but I haven't worked up the balls to ask her yet.). Every year, I'll go out and buy presents for my friends, including her, although, since I only make $5 an hour in the state with the nation's highest minimum wage (Oregon, $8.32/hr), I usually can't afford gifts over $20 for all my friends. I went down to Atascadero, California to help my aunt with a charity Christmas Party for kids, and while I was down there, we stopped at a Mervyn's. (Mervyn's is going out of business, so they were marking their stuff down up to 80% off), and I found a nice brown suede-type-leather jacket marked down from $300 to $100 (plus sales tax). I'd just got paid my $250 paycheck before coming down, and bought it for her without even thinking twice. But a bunch of people are telling me that was a bad idea (One of her friends told me she probably wouldn't wear a leather jacket). Was it a bad idea?
